This might not sound fun to many but it was super fun to me. In 2 days time (~ 10-12 hrs), I turned a bunch of wood slacks into a cot. This was my first encounter with carpentry and not a bad job for first timer. There is a store called IKEA where they say you get ready to assemble kind of furniture. In the store you can see the assembled furniture for display, note the number and go to the basement to fetch your ready to assemble pieces of furniture. They come in brown card board boxes varying in size and number depending on your choice of furniture. They all come with a manual with steps to fix the pieces into your desired furniture. For the manual labor involved, this comes with a price lesser than the ready ones. Also saves on transport/shipping charges.
So my basic bed frame had 16 pieces of wood (9 head rest + 4 bed sides + 4 legs). The center bed base comes as a single piece that has to be placed between the slots tightly.

And Tadaa..My bed is ready!!
